So, where do you start? You need to start with an idea of what you think people want. This idea, could be any of the following: clothing, jewelry, pet products, custom t-shirts, outdoor gear, survival gear, car equipment, electronic gadgets and so much more. These ideas are commonly referred to as a Niche. Whatever niche it is you decide to focus on, has got to be something you are genuinely interested in. Having a product that isn't focused will be difficult to market. If you aren't interested in what you're selling, what makes you think others will want to buy from you. Being passionate about your product helps from getting discouraged.
As you can see, there is a bit of a difference depending on who you look for to get your ideas. Which brings us to our next topic, Research.
You will have to research what Niche you want to go into and no matter what product(s) you decide to sell, someone else is selling it also. Other than drop-shipping, you will have other giants such as Walmart, Amazon, or Alibaba. If your research comes down to little or no competition, then there isn't enough demand for your product. Some products may have low competition due to high shipping costs, terrible profit margins, or a supplier and manufacturing issues. So, having competition is a good thing, it's a sign that says this product is in high demand and your business model should be sustainable.
Find you a Supplier
There are so many suppliers here in the U.S., however; most drop shipping suppliers are overseas. This makes communication with them a bit difficult. If you aren't confident in your ability to communicate with them overseas, find another drop shipper or supplier. A Google search can find you some suppliers or distributors. Some require an agreement or as a paid service. I personally have used Inventory Source, Shopify, Worldwide Brands, and Spocket. Some of these are like a hub for other distributors and dropshippers. See Links below.
Build Your Ecommerce Website
One of the fastest ways to get your website launched, that supports drop shipping, is to use Shopify. It is really easy to setup even without a tech background. It also has plenty of apps that could help you with your sales. Shopify is a plug and play type of system. You select a website design you like and then just follow the steps to filling out the info you want to put on the page. However, if you have a sizable budget, you can easily get someone to make you a website personalized and customized to your liking, Or do the plug and play option until money starts coming in, then switch to a custom website if you want.
What is customer acquisition? It is anyway you find to get customers. If you have a great product and awesome website and no customers, you don't have a business. There are numerous ways to attract customers to an online store. But for the most part, running a Facebook ad Campaign is one of the most effective. Doing this means you have already created a Facebook Business page for your Brand. Speaking of branding, do you have a logo or business name? The more people see your brand the more likely they will remember what products you sell. Everyone recognizes hundreds of brands a day like: the Nike check mark, McDonald's golden M, or seeing something similar to Crocs. We still call them Crocs right?
Ok, other than Facebook, you can use so many other social media platforms: Instagram connects to Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Pinterest, Tik-Tok, WhatsApp, Messenger, Tumblr, WeChat. These are all viable locations to post pictures of your products or create videos of the pictures to post on video platforms. When I had a drop shipping business on Shopify, there were apps that could connect straight from the Shopify store admin area, Facebook and Instagram. I did not check out all of the apps, as I was new to using more than those two mentioned. Ask your family and friends to share those posts that you make to double or triple your reach. The more people see your products the more that people are likely to share it someone else.
Analyze Your Data
So by now, you have the online store and the drop shipper working for you. What do you do now, besides marketing? Learn how to track all of the data and metrics to grow your business. The two main data trackers are Google Analytics and Facebook conversion pixel data. Learning what a customer does on your website will help you decide on what products you think the customer wants to see on the first page, or maybe you need to change the color scheme, or even the layout of your pages.
Overall, you won't ever have a set it and forget it marketing and advertising solution. You will have to constantly fine tune and test new opportunities that will allow you to know where you marketing is best served.
